Susan Weil
American, b. 1930Susan Weil (1930-) was born in New York. She studied at the Académie Julian in Paris, France, where she met her future husband, Robert Rauschenberg. She then went on to be a student at Black Mountain College. There, she studied under Josef Albers. Weil uses collage, blueprint, paint, recycled canvas, acrylic and wood to create multi-dimensional works that explore time and movement. Weil often likes to fracture the picture plane and embraces both the serious and the playful elements of her work. Weil and Rauschenberg did eventually divorce, but before so Weil collaborated with him on many projects. Weil’s work can be found in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the J. Paul Getty Museum. [Source: unknown and currently being researched]
