Russell Gillespie
American, (1922–2019)
William Russell Gillespie was born February 1, 1922 and died January 30, 2019. His wife was Barbara McCoy Gillespie.
His children are William Gillespie, Dianne Hall and Tamela Gillespie. He grew up and lived on South Turkey Creek in Leicester, North Carolina. He had a small farm and was a Baptist minister throughout Buncombe, Madison and Henderson counties. Walking through the mountains he found pieces of wood he would make pieces of art with in his spare time. He would sell them at flea markets and festivals. Some were donated to the Smithsonian and some to Asheville Art Museum.
