R. Guastavino Co.

R. Guastavino Company was founded in 1889 by Rafael Guastavino who had patented an ancient tile and motar system developed in Spain. The system was that of interlocking terra cotta tiles set in motar creating a self supporting arch. Gaustavino worked for a number of leading architects in the United States. Over 1000 buildings in the United States used the Guastavino system. Upon Guastavino"s death in 1908 the company continued under then leadership of his son, Esposito until his death in 1950.
