"Karen Karnes (1925 - 2016 ) and her then husband David Weinrib were invited to head a ceramics program at Black Mountain College in 1952. She had just completed her studies at Alfred University. They remained there until 1954 when they moved to Stony Point, New York.She currently lives in Morgan, VT.
Karnes is known for her stoneware casseroles, she also makes wheel-thrown sculptural vessels that have both heft and grace, often with a soft sensuous mouth. Her palette is focused on greens, blues and purples. She is a recipient of the Fletcher Challenge Merit Award in 1992 and a gold medal from the American Craft Council in 1998. She is also included in such collections as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Art in Boston and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London."
