Leo Krikorian
American, (1922–2005)
Leo Krikorian studied art with Ilya Bolotowsky and Josef Albers at Black Mountain College in the mid-1940s. Later he studied photography with Ansel Adams and Minor White at the San Francisco Institute of Fine Arts.
Krikorian began working in a cubistic mode and evolved into color field painting. In the 1970s he moved to Paris where he began experimenting with a fluctuating space, utilizing vibrant colors and symmetrical forms to create what the artist refers to as “implied space.”
By the time he was in his 80s, Krikorian had created over 600 major works of art. The artist last lived in Sausalito, CA. His work is in the permanent collections of Musee de Cholet, Tacoma Art Museum, the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art and the Black Mountain College Museum and Culture Center.
