BIOGRAPHY

Pinky/MM Bass (1936- ) lives in Fair Hope, AL. Though best known for her pinhole photography, she is a prodigious artist who works across media. Her work conveys universal themes of life, death and transformation. She describes herself as a feminist, spiritualist and an artist. She was a missionary in Mexico for a time and regularly teaches at Penland School of Crafts. Her work was included in The Polaroid Book and she has been published in Aperture Magazine. Her work has been shown at the High Museum of Art, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the Birmingham Museum of Art and the Southeastern Center for Contemporary art, among others. She has received grants and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, Southern Arts Federation and the Alabama State Arts Council.
