Thomas Considine
American, b. 1969
"Thomas Considine, originally from Massachusetts, moved to eastern Pennsylvania where he entered the University of Arts in Philadelphia. His work interest began in illustration but following his freshman year quickly turned three-dimensional. His interest in glass blowing that began in 1988 evolved and he began to incorporate other mediums with glass, such as bronze, aluminum, and wood. Considine’s non-traditional approach, combined with a technique developed by him, known as hot carving, in his own words, “allows me to create a marriage of textures between the glass and other mediums.”
After graduating with a B.S. in Industrial Design in 1991, Considine has exhibited at numerous galleries nationwide. In 1993 Considine was a member of a team that created the world’ s largest hand blown glass bottle for the Guiness Book of World Records. He worked as studio manager for Steve Tobin Glass Studio from for four years (1992 –96). At present he is President of Considine/Signorovitch Studios.
Influenced largely by existing colors, patterns, and forms of nature, Considine’s latest series, entitled, “Coral Reef Series” adds a new dimension for viewers. This is a hands on approach, the glass pieces are interchangeable, which allows the collector to alter the look and overall feel of the piece with their own mood."
