BIOGRAPHY

Rick Eckerd was born in Clearwater, Florida. He received his degree from Tulane University before beginning years of study and residency at the Penland School of Crafts, Pilchuck Glass School and the Rochester Institute of Technology. His best known pieces are colorful, complex, non functional vessel-like objects in which he takes a painterly approach to color, form and line quality. His shard vessels make use of "leftovers" from other pieces, incorporated into classic blown formats. Shards are also incorporated in his rondeles---large wall platters in vivid colors and abstract patterns.
