Description

Large tall ovoidal clear vase with nature landscape of forest trees a fence and an opening with a dirt road.

Paperweight Vases [PWV] series (1975-1981) is described by the artist as the development of torch working techniques to create more detailed imagery and perspectives. This body of work portrays natural subjects and landscapes, and urban and interior views.

Label History

Peiser’s career neatly divides into several series. The Paperweight Vase series (1975–1981) illustrated views in nature, interior scenes, and abstract imagery. Depicted here is a scene of a rural road that he used to drive by near Saratoga Springs, NY. Peiser lived in the region for only a few months one autumn and winter, but here he has imagined its glowing presence in the spring. A master of glass chemistry and innovations in the studio process, each of his series continues, as Peiser would say, his “dance with glass.”
