Label History

In a humorous wink toward whimsy and function, Levin transforms a traditional goblet stem into a banana. He achieves harmony in concept and color while maintaining a sense of precariousness in the work’s composition. A former resident at Penland School of Craft, Levin has long resided in Western North Carolina, contributing toward the spirit of innovation that typifies the region’s glass movement. Levin cites the sculptures of Claes Oldenburg as a source of inspiration for incorporating food and other playful elements into his designs, and the sensibilities of Pop art populate this work.
