Label History

After serving as a soldier in Japan in World War II, Falk moved to New York City, where he attended classes at the Museum of Modern Art. In 1948 he went to Black Mountain College and studied with Willem de Kooning and Josef Albers. This launched a lasting friendship with de Kooning and gave him entrée to the New York City social circle of artists Franz Kline, Jackson Pollock, Robert Motherwell, and Ad Reinhardt. Abstraction, painted shortly after his time at Black Mountain College, shows de Kooning’s clear influence. Falk worked in a myriad of styles, however, and his work as a medical illustrator betrays a highly individual approach.
