Description

Pink translucent cube.

Sometimes Alexander’s blocks are named after his friends. It is possible that is how the title of this work came about.

Label History

Alexander’s work spans more than 50 years and fundamentally embodies the “LA Look,” a style born in Los Angeles in the 1960s. Simultaneously describing industrial progress and nature, his geometric forms of dreamlike colors were created through new material processes, inspired by the clean, sleek lines of rising car and surf culture combined with Southern California’s natural beauty. In Lovett, a 2009 work reminiscent of his early sculptures, polyester resin takes on the precision of an industrial construct while maintaining a sublime intangible quality. A delicate pink color dances through the form, seeming to capture and project light. Its softness presents a direct contradiction to the firmness and shape of the material.
