Dragon Arum
© Judy Pfaff / Licensed by VAGA at Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York
Sculptural assemblages by artists like Judy Pfaff (born 1946) experiment with craft-based material and forms to structure personal narratives, pushing the boundaries of craft traditions that are familiar and revered in Western North Carolina. Pfaff’s Dragon Arum deftly constructed from an odd amalgam of fluorescent lights, Chinese paper, and plastic flowers, doubles as a flower or an organism floating in space and an inscape of the artist’s innermost emotions.
