Betty Kelley and Jane Slater will take their trial written exam for graduation this week The faculty decided to postpone until the last week in the winter quarter the exam for entrance into the Senior Division. Vera Baker, Roxane Dinkowitz, Irma Ehrman and Janet Rees passed the English placement test; Charles Forberg, Mary Phelan and Thomas Raleigh passed the math placement test. The time schedule of classes is attached as the third page. Visitors- Dr Claude Bowman and 7 sophomores from Temple University will visit and participate in activities at the College visitors last week: Bill Reed, Janie, Lieutenant Fred Stone, Mrs Annette Stone.

CALENDAR:
Dick Bush-Brown will give a ten-minute summary of the European news of the past week this evening at 7:00 o’clock in the Lobby of South Lodge.
The Board of Fellows will hold its monthly Business Session tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 o’clock in Bob Wunsch’s study.
The Community Chorus will meet at 7:30 o’clock tomorrow evening in the Dining Hall to practice Bach Chorales and a chorus from Hadyn’s “Judas Maccabeus.”
Max Dehn will address the College Community on “Mathematics and Architecture” on Saturday evening at 8:15 o’clock in the College Dining Hall.
Edward and Gretel Lowinsky and Anna Schauffler will repeat on Sunday evening at 8:15 o’clock in the College Dining Hall the program they played last Saturday evening: Benedette Marcello’s Sonata in F Major for ‘Cello and Piano; Johann Sebastian Bach’s Prelude and Fugue in E Flat Minor from the Well-Tempered Clavier I and Prelude and Fugue in E Flat Major from the Well-Tempered Claviefr II; and Johann Sebastian Bach’s Sonata for Violin and Piano in B Minor.
After the concert, Fritz Hansgirg will show several reels of movies; the reel made by Will Hamlin, showing the students and teachers laying the foundation of the Studies Building; a reel, made by him, of the four seasons at Lake Eden; and several reels, made by him, of the ice carnival in California.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Betty Kelley and Jane Slater will take their trial written examinations for graduation this week.
Samuel Selden, Acting Head of the Drama Department at the University of North Carolina, will act as Betty’s examiner in March. Since Mr Selden cannot come to Lake Eden, Betty will go to Chapel Hill for her orals.
Vaclav Vytlacil, Head of the Art Department at Queens College, will act as Jane Slater’s examiner in March.
Marli Ehrman, Head of the Textile Department at the Chicago School of Design, will examine Marilyn Bauer in textile design. Marilyn will be examined by Mr Vytlacil in art.
The Faculty has decided to postpone until the last week in the Winter Quarter the examinations for entrance into the Senior Division.
In the English Placement Test, given at the beginning of the Winter Quarter, Vera Baker, Roxane Dinkowitz, Irma Ehrman and Janet Rees successfully passed. In the Mathematics Placement Test, Charles Forberg, Mary Phelan and Thomas Raleigh passed.
Dr Claude Bowman, Dean of Men, and seven sophomores from Temple University in Philadelphia will spend part of the week at Black Mountain College. The visiting students will participate in practically all the student activities, including attendance at classes and physical work on campus projects. Dean Bowman, who is interested in student-teacher relationships, will discuss with the College officials the division of College responsibilities by the use of committees, and particularly the part that students play on these committees at Black Mountain College. The Temple University visitors will leave Lake Eden on Monday afternoon.

VISITORS:
Bill Reed arrived on Tuesday, January 23, for a six days’ visit at the College on his way back to Coleville, California.
Janie and Lieutenant Fred Stone arrived on Saturday for a four days’ visit with Mrs Annette Stone and with friends at the College. Janie and Fred will leave tomorrow afternoon for Tampa, Florida, where Fred will be stationed for several months.
