Only by accepting a capacity enrollment of high calibre students can we be assured that at Black Mountain College no possible opportunity for training young persons of merit goes to waste.

7 Wartime Scholarships
Ten to young men-seven to young women. Amounts range from $750 to $200 according to need. Full annual fee of $1200 covers board, room and tuition. Entrance in any one of next three Quarters: Winter, January 4, 1943; Spring, March 29, 1943; Summer, July 5, 1943.
Candidates must be high school seniors or graduates and must at time of formal application file confidential statement attesting financial need for amount of scholarship for which they apply. They will be judged upon their Academic Achievement, Character, Personality, Manual and Artistic Skills.
Black Mountain College: small, modern liberal arts college situated in the healthful Craggy Mountain region near Asheville, North Carolina. Seven hundred acre campus on beautiful Lake Eden.
Recognizing the traditional heritage of the liberal arts, the College attempts to adapt their values to the needs of this generation, and to develop a new approach to the old problem of uniting insight and action so important today.
Courses offered in Sciences: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology; in Humanities; Philosophy, History, Social Studies, Literature, Language, Psychology; in practical fields: Architecture, Building Construction, Business Administration, Journalism.
School of Arts: Art, Music, Dramatics, Weaving, Crafts.
Students specializing in Art, Music and Dramatics broaden their understanding through courses in the Sciences and Humanities. Students in other fields expand their perception and abilities through work in the Arts.
Optional accelerated year-round program permits graduation in three years or less. Opportunity for officership through Army, Navy and Marine Corps deferred enlistment program. Black Mountain will co-operate with new government plan for 18-19 year old students, when adopted.
Democratic, self-governing community students represent economic and geographic cross-section of American life. Everyone participates in stimulating informal social and recreational activities and in comprehensive campus work experience program. Students assume unusual responsibilities, and share in administration.
New modern Studies Building built with student and faculty labor. College owns and operates Farm and Dairy.
Near-tutor attention in the classroom and individual counselling and guidance in relationship to life aims by distinguished faculty which includes Professor Josef Albers, from the Bauhaus, Art; A Lawrence Kocher, former Editor Architectural Record, Architecture; Dr Fritz Hansgirg, inventor of the carbothermic reduction process for making metallic magnesium, Chemistry; Dr Heinrich Jalowetz, former Director Prague Orchestra, Music.
