The opening of an EXHIBITION of DRAMA DESIGN by the students of Black Mountain College at the DALTON SCHOOL 108 E. 89th STREET, N.Y.C. WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 7th, 1942 4:00 to 7:00 P.M.
EXHIBITION will be open from JANUARY 7th through JANUARY 9th
The theater is an integral part of the curriculum at Black Mountain College. Participation in the various phases of drama study and production, as well as training and experience in music and the fine arts, is given special emphasis.
Black Mountain College believes that the reality of the work presented in this exhibition represents an aesthetic standard which strengthens the student in facing the more evident realities of the world today. The American college student’s ability to function effectively in communal activity has assumed a new importance in the present world situation. The exhibition illustrates one of the various forms of cooperative endeavor at Black Mountain.
The exhibition centers around the costumes, designed and made by the students, for the production of Moliere’s “The Physician In Spite of Himself,” which took place in December. There will also be shown models of stage sets, costume designs, and photographs of former productions.
Some of the former productions include:
“The Cherry Orchard” “Let Me Have Air” (an original musical comedy)
“Bury the Dead”
“A Doll’s House” “Waiting for Lefty”
“Macbeth” “Ah Wilderness” “Outward Bound”
