Peiser’s career neatly divides into several series. A master of glass chemistry and innovations in the studio process, each of his series continues, as Peiser would say, his “dance with glass.” The Forms of Consciousness series illustrates Peiser’s explorations into the use of molds. The flat finish of Passing Thought was achieved by treating the pâte de verre glass, or glass paste, with acid after removing it from the mold—giving the artwork a density in its appearance to match its title.
