© Dona Look
Trained as an art teacher, Look became interested in craft while living abroad in Australia. There she began sewing and weaving, and these arts remain strong in her work. Her baskets—sculptural, minimal, and precise—are woven together, with the components connected by silk thread. She believes in the importance of preserving the environment and promotes this by only using natural white birch from trees that are already scheduled to be harvested. The lighter bark is from the exterior of the tree, and the darker bark is from the interior. The title of this piece is Look’s way of naming and inventorying her baskets and not a reference to the radio code.
