Cherry Pod

In the sculpture Cherry Pod, like many of his other works, Slentz uses his tools in a straightforward manner that not only allows the beauty of the wood to remain visible but also makes obvious his process. Here the turned wood has been burned at varying intensities and chiseled out in a diagonal pattern. The seedpod is a recurring theme in his work and presents the viewer with something quite recognizable while offering an alternative to one’s visual expectation.
