Description

Carved, tapered Walnut bookend with floral and leaf carving on stippled field.

A "Tudor rose" does not exist in nature, but is a centuries old convention in British heraldry melding the Rose of Lancaster with the Rose of York. Many people in Tryon interpreted the nae at tuberose, a favorite flower in the south (actually a bulb of the amaryliss family). Carved wood accessories with this elegant motif were Tryon Toymakers highest priced designs.
